Has Mark Pope found his third and final on-court recruiting assistant to join him in Lexington? Cody Fueger and Jason Hart have already been made official, and now, another high-profile name has emerged for Kentucky.
Baylor associate head coach Alvin Brooks III, who just wrapped up his eighth season with the Bears, is expected to round out the staff barring any last-minute snags, multiple sources tell KSR. He previously spent time at Kansas State, Sam Houston State and Bradley before taking over as Scott Drew’s lead assistant in Waco.
Now, Pope is making a serious push to steal him away to form one of the top coaching staffs in college basketball.
Kyle Tucker of The Athletic was the first to break the news of potential mutual interest between Kentucky and Brooks III.
The 44-year-old is considered one of the top recruiters in the nation, bringing in the likes of VJ Edgecombe, Ja’Kobe Walter and Keyonte George to Baylor in recent years. He’s the son of current Lamar head coach Alvin Brooks, who served as a director of operations under Billy Gillispie from 2007-09.
Now, his son could be following in his shoes to Lexington, this time under first-year head coach Mark Pope.
