The Kentucky Wildcats are off to a fast start on the young season as they prepare for a matchup with Western Kentucky on Tuesday.
A team built vastly different from the rosters we have seen over the last 15 seasons, the veteran transfers are leading the charge for Mark Pope’a’s squad. With three freshmen on the roster, Colin Chandler is gaining some minutes in some of the marquee matchups, but it is the two freshmen from Kentucky that have Coach Pope just as excited for their futures in the program: Trent Noah and Travis Perry.
Noah and Perry both came off the bench and scored their first points of the season in the second half of Friday’s blowout win against Jackson State.
“They are really, really special. They are having a massive impact on this team and their futures are incredibly bright,” Pope said of Noah and Perry in the postgame press conference. “It’s hard to sit for 35 minutes and come play. I think they are taking it really seriously and I thought they came to play tonight, I thought they were awesome. I thought they were really good, doing a really hard thing. I’m proud of those guys. It’s incredibly beautiful to have freshmen that you can trust like we trust them, and they have great futures.”
As Kentucky is set to undergo major roster turnover next offseason with so many players exhausting their eligibility, Noah and Perry will be key building blocks for next season and beyond.
