The rollercoaster continues for the Kentucky Wildcats after a tough road loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, 82-69.
It has been a strange few weeks for Kentucky fans, seeing the Cats get blown out by Ohio State, beat undefeated Florida, but then lose to Georgia.
The Bulldogs are a talented team, but the Cats struggled in many aspects, like 3-point shooting and rebounding, helping Georgia to the win.
The Wildcats were outrebounded by the Bulldogs 41-34, which is a tough stat to overcome on the road against a talented team.
Kentucky gave up double-digit offensive rebounds again, and head coach Mark Pope did not hold back when asked about the rebounding issues.
Pope had plenty to say after the loss about the rebounding issues.
“It’s back-to-back games where we gave up 15 offensive rebounds,” said Pope. “That’s a real bell we’ve got to ring. It’s unacceptable for us. It’s a sign of distraction somehow. There were so many uncharacteristic plays on the court tonight, and those are for us as a deciding team, as a decision-making team, those are manifestations of some distraction, and us rooting that out and getting better at focusing on the moment and exactly what’s happening … part of it is building habits,” according to Aaron Gershon.
The Wildcats head coach had another interesting comment about the team’s rebounding issues recently.
“Sometimes when you start on a project, you take 10 steps backward before you make progress, and it feels like that’s what we’ve done,” he said. “It’s almost like the more we talk about, the more we drill it, the more of a challenge it is. That’s a nuanced conversation among the staff that we have to kind of figure out, but clearly, that’s a major, major issue for us is this glass.”
Whatever the root of the issue is, Pope and his team need to figure it out quickly, because the SEC is stacked again this year with talented teams.
It would appear the winds have shifted in the recruitment of Caleb Wilson. While the Kentucky Wildcats have been seen as the favorites for several months, th
