Chanel has unveiled one of Hollywood’s biggest names, Margot Robbie, as the new face of its timeless N°5 perfume, although it’s not her first link-up with Chanel as she’s been an ambassador of the House since March 2018.
The company said the Australian actress and producer “is part of the lineage of great actresses who have in turn embodied the essence of this unique scent”.
Her movie roles are as varied as the huge spread of consumers who buy the scent, including the light-but-with-meaning success of Barbie to playing Sharon Tate for Quentin Tarantino, her breakthrough in The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorcese in 2013, her Oscar-nominated I, Tonya (playing Olympic figure skater, Tonya Harding) and her appearance in Babylon.
She’s also a producer via her LuckyChap production company with film and TV projects aimed at finding and championing female stories, female voices and emerging filmmakers.
The first campaign featuring Robbie will appear in October, just as the fragrance sector gears up for festive season. We’ve no inkling yet about the look and feel of the campaign but Chanel is known for putting heavyweight support behind N°5, support that has kept it in the list of the world’s top perfumes for decades. So we should be able to expect a memorable production.
