A man has died at a shopping centre after he reportedly barricaded himself inside a toilet cubicle following a failed robbery.
Police were called to Lynbrook Shopping Centre in Melbourne‘s south-east after reports of a robbery at 12.30pm on Friday.
Police attempted to arrest the man before he fled on foot inside the centre on South Gippsland Highway.
The man was later found with life-threatening injuries inside a toilet cubicle.
Police believe the injuries were self-inflicted.
Paramedics attempted to revive the man but he died at the scene.
Detectives will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command which is standard practice when a person dies in police presence.
An investigation into the man’s death has been launched with anyone who witnessed the incident urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
