A family-run caravan park in Wales, Tyddyn Isaf, has been crowned the best in the UK by a leading tourism organisation. The site, located on Anglesey and boasting “magnificent views” of a sandy beach, was named AA Campsite of the Year.
The AA Caravan and Camping Awards is an annual event that has been recognising the best sites and parks in the UK since its inception in 1979. The awards are based on the quality and commitment to customer service as assessed by the AA’s expert inspectors.
Tyddyn Isaf not only won the Campsite of the Year award for Wales but also bagged the overall winner prize, reports Wales Online. An AA inspector praised the site saying: “This is a beautifully situated family park on rising ground adjacent to a sandy beach with magnificent views overlooking Lligwy Bay. A memorable holiday destination, it has been in the Mount family since 1975, with daughter Haley and husband Simon continuing the family tradition of excellent hospitality and service. “.
The inspectors were particularly impressed by the stunning coastal and country views, quality serviced hardstanding pitches offering privacy for residents, and hospitality stops including coffee lounges, a bar serving pastries and snacks all day, and even a takeaway offering wood-fired pizza.
The inspector was effusive in praise, noting: “Due to the undulating nature of the park, quality hardstanding pitches, most fully serviced and offering excellent privacy, have been created ensuring all have stunning coastal and country views the sunsets here are particularly spectacular.
In addition to superb amenity blocks, all with excellent privacy cubicles, guests can unwind and indulge at very smart Grazing Ground, a new coffee lounge and bar serving pastries and snacks all day, best enjoyed on the alfresco terrace with views of the Anglesey coastline. A fabulous reception building opened in 2024, with a shop, the Y Mochyn Bach takeaway, offering wood-fired pizzas, and upstairs is a gym and a business centre, with high-speed internet.”
He also highlighted the site’s commitment to green practices, stating: “Sustainability and conservation are taken very seriously there are 200 solar panels powering all the buildings on the Welsh site, and 8,500 trees were planted in 1992, and this now mature woodland is a peaceful haven for guests to discover the rich flora and fauna. Wildflower meadows and a private footpath to the beach complete the impressive picture.”
The campsite has been a labour of love for the Mount family since 1975, with Arthur and Beverly Mount at the helm, and their daughter Haley and her husband Simon upholding the family’s reputation for “excellent hospitality and service”.
Hayley Mount Leonard, part-owner, expressed immense pride in the recognition of their “unwavering dedication” to the park over the past fifty years, highlighting their commitment to delivering “exceptional experiences” for guests while fostering responsible tourism and sustainable practices.
She added: “We live in a beautiful area overlooking Lligwy Bay on Anglesey, and we love absolutely every moment of it. We are immensely thrilled and so proud to be acknowledged as the best in the industry and believe this accolade reflects positively on our dedication to quality, community, and environmental stewardship. It means so much to us, and we hope to spend many more years creating happy memories for all our guests”.
