Action in the first of four rounds of the Masters gets underway today (Thursday, April 11). Express Sport runs you through all the details on how to tune into the first of golf’s four major tournaments live on the radio.
When does the Masters start?
This year’s tournament runs from today, April 11, to Sunday, April 14. Officially, there are usually three days of practice prior to the first of the four rounds, but Tiger Woods arrived on Sunday as he bids for an albeit unlikely sixth title.
How can I listen to the Masters on the radio?
Golf fans in the United Kingdom can listen to live coverage of the Masters on talkSPORT. You can also listen via the talkSPORT app, on DAB digital radio, through your smart speaker, and on 1089 or 1053 AM.
Where else can I see coverage of the Masters?
Viewers in the UK can watch the Masters on Sky Sports Golf throughout the week. Coverage on the first day starts from 2pm.
In previous years, the BBC has broadcast coverage of the Masters, either live or as highlights. But the broadcaster removed the tournament from its usual list of sporting events last year.
Where is the Masters played?
Action takes place at the Augusta National Golf Club in the north-east of Georgia, USA. The Masters is the only one of golf’s four major annual tournaments to take place on the same course each year.
Augusta National is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the world. Only 300 people are members, including Bill Gates. The only way to play the course is by invitation by a member.
What is the prize money?
The total purse for this year’s Masters is expected to be just over £14million ($18m), the same pot as last year. The winner will take home £2.5m ($3.24m) and gets to keep a replica version of the trophy, with the actual trophy never leaving the Augusta club.
The champion also receives a gold medal and, most famously, a green jacket.
Prize money incrementally decreases for each of the top-50 finishers. There are also trophies for finishing second, being the leading amateur golfer, recording the lowest score of the day, hitting a hole in one, hitting an eagle and hitting a double eagle.
