The Lighting & Sound Technician is part of the Technical Team which is managed by the Technical Manager, the Technical Team includes Departments specialising in Electrics, Stage & Facilities/Maintenance. The role is responsible to the Chief Electrician.
Key responsibilities of the job holder include:
As a member of the Electrics department, providing support for all productions, whether a visiting company or an in-house production, in the Everyman main auditorium, The Irving Studio and projects touring from the Everyman
Working on get-ins, fit-ups, strikes and get-outs loading and unloading lighting and sound equipment for visiting company trailers
Rigging, focusing, plotting and operating lighting
Rigging, set-up, patching, sound-checking and operating sound
The preparation or hiring of sound effects and resources
The preparation or hiring of lighting effects and stage electrics resources
Acting as Duty Electrician & Fire Marshal in the building for performances
When appropriate, assist with the stage department with scenery/props/costume loading, unloading, fitting up and striking
To assist the Chief Electrician and Head of Sound in the maintenance and servicing of both production and buildings electrical equipment and installation, including testing and monitoring as required to service productions, run the building and comply with Health and Safety requirements.
To assist the Chief Electrician and Head of Sound in ensuring that working areas and equipment are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition
To be a keyholder for the Everyman building (if the postholder is also included on the rota of staff who can be called out by security in an emergency an additional payment is made when called-out)
To deputise, as requested by the Chief Electrician, for the Chief Electrician or Head of Sound in his/her absence
As a staff member of the Everyman, through your duty of care proactively ensuring that the working environment and practices conform to Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety Policy.
To undertake such other duties as may be requested from time to time by the Chief Electrician, Head of Sound or Technical Manager.
Essential Skills/Person Specification:
One years’ professional electrical experience in a middle-scale theatre, either producing or receiving. Experience of touring would also be an advantage
Good working knowledge of stage electrics, sound and networking including modern patching systems
Basic working knowledge of electrical theory
Computer literacy
The ability to work both in a team and on their own
The ability to manage and supervise casual staff
The ability to work at heights
Good physical fitness and ability to lift
The ability to work under pressure
