Skiers are prioritising value for money and snow reliability this season.
Skiers are increasingly focused on securing the best value for their holidays, with a significant rise in early bookings. According to a recent study, 56% of ski enthusiasts had booked their winter holidays by September, reflecting a 30% increase from the previous year. This trend is driven by the need to secure more favourable prices, as confirmed by 91% of the surveyed participants.
A growing number of skiers are opting for all-inclusive packages, with 40% viewing this as the best value accommodation option available. December remains the most popular month for travel. However, concerns about snow reliability persist, with 68% expressing apprehension about snowfall and conditions, marking a notable increase compared to the previous season. This has led to 30% of skiers checking recent snow conditions during their booking process, a 50% increase from last year.
High-altitude resorts are becoming increasingly attractive to skiers, with 82% more likely to choose these destinations, despite potential increased costs. Value for money remains crucial in this decision, with 42% citing it as a primary factor amidst economic challenges. On average, skiers are willing to spend £1,840 per person for a week’s holiday, £381 more than in 2023, and a third are planning multiple trips this season.
In terms of package preferences, 88% of skiers prefer operators that include lift passes in the overall package price. Meanwhile, half of those yet to book are holding out for last-minute deals, fuelled by the prospect of favourable late offers. The decision to delay bookings is also influenced by snow condition checks, with 32% choosing to wait until conditions are optimal before finalising their plans.
Sustainability is an emerging priority, with 67% considering the eco credentials of providers prior to booking their ski holidays, up from 60% last year. Environmental concerns such as air pollution, plastic waste, and energy consumption weigh heavily on traveller decisions. Switzerland leads the list of destinations, accounting for 30% of bookings, followed by France and Austria.
In conclusion, skiers are increasingly driven by economic value, snow conditions, and sustainability in their holiday planning.
