College basketball freshmen who are making a case to be lottery picks
Here are 3 freshmen who are playing their way into becoming lottery picks for the 2025 NBA Draft.
NORMAN, Okla. — Kentucky basketball and coach Mark Pope will face a desperate team tonight.
Oklahoma, which welcomes UK to the Lloyd Noble Center for a 9 p.m. tipoff, is squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Entering last weekend, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi listed the Sooners as the “first team out” if the Big Dance had started that day. Then OU upset a ranked Mississippi State squad at home Saturday; that night, Lunardi moved Oklahoma into the field.
CBS Sports writer Jerry Palm still isn’t sold on the Sooners’ tournament credentials. His latest bracket projection, which published Monday morning, didn’t include Oklahoma.
With the Sooners’ razor-thin margin for error as the regular season enters its stretch run, the Wildcats will receive the hosts’ best shot tonight.
UK is a ranked team (No. 23 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the AP Top 25), a claim OU can’t make. The Wildcats (18-9, 7-7 SEC) also boast a superior record overall and in conference play compared with the Sooners (17-10, 4-10).
But Kentucky has struggled in road games this season, entering tonight just 2-6.
Can the Wildcats stave off the Sooners’ upset bid?
Follow along below with live updates from Norman:
Senior guards Lamont Butler and Jaxson Robinson were not listed on the SEC’s availability report, which posted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, two hours before tipoff between the Wildcats and Sooners. That sets the stage for the pair to play tonight against Oklahoma.
The contest between the Wildcats and Sooners will air on SEC Network. Roy Philpott (play-by-play) and Richard Hendrix (analyst) will have the call.
Authenticated subscribers can access SEC Network via TV-connected devices or by going to WatchESPN.com, the WatchESPN app or ESPN+.

Tom Leach (play-by-play) and Jack Givens (analyst) will have the UK radio network call on 840 AM in Louisville and both 630 AM and 98.1 FM in Lexington.

Betting odds: Kentucky is a 2 ½-point road favorite (-118) on DraftKings, which set the over/under at 163 ½ points (-108). The money line odds are Kentucky -155, Oklahoma +130.
Record: 18-9 (7-7 SEC)
The Sooners are 17-10 this season. Oklahoma was one of the nation’s last unbeaten teams, beginning the 2024-25 campaign 13-0. But since then, the Sooners are 4-10 — which doubles as their record in SEC play.
UK is 3-0 all time versus Oklahoma.
