SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Kentucky men’s golf visits the Arizona desert this weekend where the Wildcats will tee it up in the Desert Mountain Collegiate, March 8-9, at Desert Mountain’s Outlaw Course (par 72, 7,107 yards).
Kentucky is one of 17 teams in the field for the 54-hole event, including three ranked inside the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd Top 50. Rounds one and two will be played on Saturday, beginning with a 7:30 a.m. MST shotgun start, before the final round on Sunday also commences with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. local time.
This weekend’s tournament will be the second of the spring season for the Wildcats, who finished tied for eighth at the Watersound Invitational last month. There, UK ended with a tournament team total of 863 (-1), marking its first under-par tournament as a team of the 2024-25 campaign.
Freshman Jacob Lang led the Cats in the spring opener, notching his best career finish by placing T12 at 4-under par. Lang would go on to earn SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week honors for his performance, one which saw the Alvaton, Kentucky native card 10 birdies to just six bogeys across the tournament’s 54 holes.
Lang is back in the lineup this week, slotted in the third spot behind Jansen Preston and Jack Schoenberger. Preston is coming off a T30 finish in Florida which included two rounds under-par. He leads the team with nine rounds of par-or-better this season. Schoenberger was T28 in UK’s last event, finishing at 1-under par for the week.
Freshman Kentuckian Jacob Settles will also make his second spring start in Scottsdale. He placed T43 at the Watersound and owns a 73.67 scoring average for the season. Oakley Gee, who competed as an individual in Kentucky’s last tournament, will get the start in the five spot, while sophomore Michael Hake is set to compete as an individual.
No. 10 Utah is the highest ranked team in the field at the Desert Mountain, followed by No. 27 Mississippi State and No. 48 Kansas. The University of Michigan will serve as the host school for the event.
