LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) – The UK men’s basketball team hosted Wright State in its season opener on Monday, Nov. 4.
The official start of the Kentucky basketball season is less than one week away but before the Wildcats start the regular season hosting Wright State, they Wildcats had a dominate showing in another exhibition game, this time against Minnesota State Mankato.
UK basketball dominated opening night with a 103-62 win over Wright State.
Kentucky came out strong to start and led 27-11 by the 9:35 minute mark in the first half.
While the Cats’ three-point shot did not ignite as early on as it did in the exhibitions, UK took advantage in transition with 16 fast break points.
Kentucky closed the first half on a 8-0 run and led 46-25 by the halftime break.
The Cats’ lead grew to 30 points after a 9-0 out of the break.
Ultimately, UK went on to win on opening night, 103-62, and improve to 1-0 overall.
Otega Oweh led all scorers with 21 points along with three rebounds, three steals, a single assist, and a single steal.
The Cats shot 60 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc as a team. The team also dished out the most assists ever in a season opener (30).
