The Kentucky basketball team has one more non-conference game before going into the gauntlet of the SEC schedule, starting with one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, the Florida Gators. That game is on Saturday at Rupp Arena. It’s also listed as the game of the week by Andy Katz.
This is the third time that Kentucky has had the game of the week, according to one pundit or another. They had the game of the week when they played against Duke and again when they played Gonzaga, and now Florida is coming to Lexington. It continues to show that analysts and college basketball fans want to see the Kentucky product match up against other top teams, especially because there are other great games this same week.
Oregon is featured in two as the Big-10 schedule gets underway. Yet it’s the SEC that dominates the top spots for games of the week. Kentucky vs. Florida, Oklahoma at Alabama, and Arkansas at Tennessee will all be electric games and will kick the SEC conference schedule off with a bang.
The SEC has every team except one in the top 75 of net rankings. Only South Carolina is not in the top 75, but it isn’t far outside of it at 85. This means the SEC is full of quad 1 and 2 games throughout the entire year. The SEC also features four teams in the top 10 in NET and seven inside the top 25.
Kentucky may find themselves constantly playing the game of the week or up there among the top. After the Florida game at home, the Wildcats head on the road for two games, taking on Georgia and then Mississippi State. Both teams are fighting for relevance in the SEC, and the Bulldogs may end up being one of the premier teams in the conference. It won’t be an easy road, but it will be one filled with opportunities.
