Jurgen Klopp has offered a fresh update on his future after leaving Liverpool – and has ruled out taking over as England manager
Jurgen Klopp has again shut down the possibility of making a swift return to management after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, hinting that he might never coach again. The German announced his decision to step down after nine years at Anfield in January, with the intention of taking a sabbatical from football.
While Klopp was adamant that he not make a premature return to the dugout after leaving the Reds, that hasn’t stopped him from being linked with a number of jobs so far – including the England manager’s job after Gareth Southgate’s resignation.
However, he has reiterated that he has no intention of cutting short his sabbatical to return to management anytime soon.

“Nothing at all. Job-wise, nothing at all,” the former Liverpool boss said at the International Coaches’ Congress in Wurzburg when asked if his advisor, Marc Kosicke, had presented any offers to him. “No club, no country. Some people must not have heard that part.”

Klopp would also shut down the possibility of replacing Southgate at England. And while he confirmed that he does still intend to return to football after his sabbatical, as things stand he is ruling out another coaching role.
“That would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you,” he said of the England vacancy.
“I will work at something. I’m too young to just play padel and only spend time with my grandchildren.
“Will it be coaching again? I would actually rule that out at the moment. We’ll see how things look in a few months. Right now, nothing is coming through.
“As of today, that’s it for me as a coach. I didn’t quit on a whim, but it was a general decision. I’ve also coached the best clubs in the world.
“Maybe we can talk about it again in a few months. I still want to work in football and help people with my experience and contacts. Let’s see what else there is for me.”
Joining Liverpool in October 2015, cutting short a sabbatical after leaving Borussia Dortmund in the process, Klopp took charge of 491 matches during his eight and a half years at Anfield.

Meanwhile, he would win every major honour with the Reds, including leading them to the first English title in 30 years, a sixth European Cup, and being crowned champions of the world for the first time in the club’s history.
But while Liverpool managed to lure Klopp out of his last sabbatical after just five months nine years ago, the 57-year-old remains adamant that history will not repeat itself as he continues to enjoy life after the Reds.
He has enjoyed a busy summer since leaving Liverpool, with highlights including Klopp attending a Taylor Swift concert at Anfield, the Champions League final at Wembley and the final of the tennis Mallorca Championships after moving to the Spanish island.
Arne Slot was confirmed as Klopp’s replacement at Liverpool earlier this summer and will lead the Reds against Premier League opposition for the first time on Wednesday night when his side lock horns with Arsenal in their second friendly of their pre-season tour of the United States.
