Wigan Athletic have signed Arsenal defender Josh Robinson on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
The 20-year-old did not make an appearance for Arsenal’s senior side, but was an unused substitute in four Champions League games this season.
He did play three EFL Trophy games for their under-21s this season and scored in a 2-1 victory at Leyton Orient.
“Moving here was a significant decision for him, but Josh is both excited and motivated about our vision for the club in the coming seasons,” said Wigan manager Shaun Maloney.
“He is an extremely dedicated defender who excels in one-on-one situations and possesses strengths in attacking areas as well.”
Robinson, who can play at right-back or a central defensive role, could make his debut for the Latics in Saturday’s home fixture against Birmingham City.
Wigan’s home game against Huddersfield Town on New Year’s Day was postponed because of “localised flooding” around the ground.
They are 16th in League One, 10 points adrift of the top six but seven points clear of the relegation places.
“It’s a very big club, and I am looking forward to seeing what the season holds. I just want to hit the ground running,” Robinson said.
