As the IDF remained on high alert for Iran and Hezbollah to follow through on their threats to “punish” Israel, several US personnel were injured in a rocket attack on an airbase in Iraq, which the Pentagon blamed an Iranian-backed militia group for, calling it a “dangerous escalation”.
Both the US and UK continued to call for restraint from all parties in the Middle East, with David Lammy, the Foreign Secretary, saying that the Government is “ready and prepared” should tensions further escalate.
“Turning to the Middle East, the Foreign Secretary updated on the rising tensions across the region and said that the Government’s focus was around encouraging de-escalation,” a readout from the Cabinet meeting said.
