Spanish apparel company Inditex plans to launch its youth-focused and trend driven brand Bershka in the Indian market following the swift growth of its brand Zara. Bershka’s first brick-and-mortar store in the country is scheduled to open in Mumbai this November.
“Bershka is opening its first India store on November 1,” an anonymous source close to the development told India Retailing. The label’s first brick-and-mortar store will open its doors at Phoenix Palladium Mall in Mumbai’s Lower Parel and the outlet is currently undergoing renovations, Apparel Resources reported.
The upcoming Bershka store is located next to an upcoming Uniqlo outlet in Phoenix Palladium Mall, which is also preparing to open. The shopping centre houses a wide selection of global apparel brands including American Eagle, Burberry, Calvin Klein Jeans, Emporio Armani, Gant, and Gas, according to its website.
Inditex or Industria de Diseño Textil, S.A. is headquartered in Galicia, Spain and operates in over 93 global markets. The business also runs the youth-focused apparel brand Pull&Bear, which it is currently considering launching in the Indian market in 2025.
In 2010, Inditex launched Zara in India and the brand became profitable after less than a year in operation. Zara today counts 21 stores across the country and it continues to grow, albeit at a reduced rate. Bershka caters to a younger audience than Zara and focuses on Gen Z shoppers, inspired by technology, music, and social networking, according to Inditex’s website.
