‘I’m a security expert – travellers should always bring alarms to Airbnbs’
While you should always book accommodation through a trusted host, sadly, the popularity of Airbnb has meant there is an increased risk of people falling victim to scammers.
So before booking your accommodation, make sure you only book through the Airbnb website and be sure to check the reviews and ratings of the hosts you are interested in.
Getting first-hand reviews from fellow travellers will ensure you know what you’re getting when you book through the website.
Once booked and ready to go, the experts said travellers should make sure to take their own alarms to the property.
Most properties listed on Airbnb should be fully equipped with alarms.
However, Ali said: “Just to be on the safe side and for your reassurance, it’s worth bringing your own alarms which can be placed on windows and doors.
“Security alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are also worth purchasing and taking with you, as the property may not be installed with them and for a small cost, it’s worth protecting your health.
“Regardless of whether you bring your own alarms or not, always put the latch on the door, you don’t know who else has the keys to the accommodation.”
