A popular Ibiza club has introduced a new rule for all partygoers.
Expect a phone-free experience at hotel and club Pikes Ibiza after owners decided to extend its dance floor photography ban to seven nights a week.
In April, the policy was introduced on Monday nights only until this week, being extended to every night.
It was announced via Instagram with the message: “Keep your phones in your pocket and your mind on the music.”
Clubgoers will now be asked to place a sticker over their phone camera upon entering Pikes’ grounds, with staff members ready to remind attendees of the rule if they are caught snapping photos or videos.
The post further explained that the initial one-day-a-week policy had “caused quite the stir around the island,” leading to a “positive shift in the way people experience parties in Ibiza.”
This “positive shift” is likely a nod to another popular club on the island, Hï Ibiza, which also adopted the policy.
The club, recently voted the best in the world, banned phones at its Damian Lazarus Club Room residency and subsequently at the James Hype and Meduza Club Room residencies.
“Keeping your phone in your pocket and your mind on the music and knowing that everyone around you is doing the same opens up a whole world of freedom, not only on the dance floor but all around Pikes,” the post added.
The no-phone policy, popularised by Berghain, in Berlin, has been implemented at several underground nightclubs, including London’s FOLD and fabric.
Back in 2018, a survey revealed that 70% of club-goers dislike people using their phones on the dancefloor.
