A British holidaymaker has expressed her disappointment with the weather in Benidorm, which has ruined her trip abroad.
Despite the UK basking in 25C sunshine this week, the popular Spanish coastal resort presented a stark contrast, as shown in a TikTok video by Jessica (@jessicarose049). Her clip, recorded on Wednesday (September 18), showed torrential rain pouring down on the town centre, forcing tourists to seek shelter under umbrellas.
“Lovely weather today,” Jessica sarcastically captioned the video. She added: “We go home Saturday and I’m pretty sure it’s raining again tomorrow.”
Other users shared their own recent experiences of bad weather on the Mediterranean coast in the comments section. “I retreated from poolside to balcony very fast,” one person said, to which Jessica replied: “We were stuck waiting for our bus under a leaky shop roof!”
Another TikTok user sympathised: “Poor you, it was like this in Costa Brava last week.” Whilst a third hoped for an improvement: “Hopefully the weather picks up we are here at the moment for two weeks.”
Elsewhere, some of Jessica’s followers admitted they had been fortunate to have avoided any downpour, with one reminiscing: “Was there last week was so hot,” and another adding: “Got home Sunday it was in the 30s all week.”
And a third rejoiced: “Came home yesterday missed it.” Jessica was left to see the funny side, however, quipping: “My hotel is all the way up by the mountain, to be fair I could have just swam there!”
It comes after Brits in Spain were hit with a fresh “six-drink” limit imposed due to rampant unruly antics. Some tourist behaviour has reportedly got so out of control that all-inclusive hotels in the country have adopted the ruling.
This stringent measure aims to prevent guests from embarking on day-long drinking sprees, starting from the crack of dawn. “Although binge drinking may be common practice in many countries, people in Spain like to take their time with drinking,” said Christian Wolf, the CEO of CW Real Estate Ibiza.
He added: “Tourists often come to Spain ready to party, but what they don’t realise is that binge drinking is not as accepted here. It’s important to enjoy yourself, but drinking to excess can lead to public disturbances, property damage, and strained relationships with the locals.”
