A man swapped out his rent for a month-long holiday after realising it would be cheaper to head abroad than pay for his flat.
Josh Kerr, 24, realised it would be cheaper to stay at an all-inclusive five star hotel in Turkey than rent his flat in Manchester.
In a video posted to TikTok he filmed himself searching various holidays using holiday company On The Beach, and found a stunning resort in Turkey for less than his rent.
“Not being funny right but I pay £950 for my rent, bills, council tax,” he said in the video.
“I’d be getting breakfast, lunch, evening meal, drinks, snacks and a gaff for £937.10! That’s with flights as well. What are we doing in England?”
In a follow up video, he revealed On The Beach had seen the video and reached out to send him on the month-long trip to see what it would be like to live in the resort for a month.
He spent the next four weeks sunning himself on beautiful beaches, lounging by the pool and enjoying the best of Turkish cuisine and hospitality.
Off the back of Josh’s successful trip, On the Beach crunched the numbers to reveal where people from the UK could trade their rental bills for a dream getaway.
By analysing rental prices across the 50 most populated cities in the UK and comparing them with over 31,000 holiday packages, analysts have revealed the top destinations where a 28-night stay could cost less than renting – along with the UK cities that could be getting more bang for their buck.
Turkey was top of the list with stats showing that a 28-night stay is 15% cheaper on accommodation expenses for a month.
With 460 holiday packages on offer for less than 28 days rent, the average couple can stay in Turkey for £892.16 per month – which is £166.44 cheaper than the average UK rent.
In second place was Malta with month-long packages found to be roughly 14% cheaper – that’s about £152 cheaper than UK rent.
With 111 holidays for less than a months’ rent, there are plenty of options for destinations on the islands.
