The latest Manchester United news as the FA Cup fifth round sees the Red Devils come up against a former player as they host Fulham at Old Trafford.
Former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is looking to show the club that they made a mistake by letting him go, by helping his current club, Fulham, overcome them in the FA Cup fifth round.
United host the Cottagers at Old Trafford in the competition on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm kick-off). The winners will progress to the quarter-final stage as Ruben Amorim’s side aim to defend the trophy they won last season.
Pereira will be part of the Fulham squad who will try to knock out the defending champions. The 29-year-old spent over a decade at Old Trafford, after joining the club’s U18 set-up from the PSV youth teams. His time at the club involved four separate loan spells at Grenada, Valencia, Lazio and Flamengo.
He moved away permanently in the summer of 2022, joining Fulham in a £10 million deal. He made a total of 75 appearances for United’s first team, scoring four goals.
The Brazilian is looking forward to returning to his former home in the FA Cup. He has also outlined why he thinks he has a point to prove every time he comes up against United.
“It’s always a special feeling to go back to Old Trafford, where I called home for a lot of years,” he told Opta Analyst. “It’s always a special game for me.
“I don’t think I got my full chance to play and show my quality when I was there. Fulham gave me that opportunity, they did everything for me, and I want to do everything for them. So, whenever I play at Old Trafford, I want to show that United made a mistake.”
The meeting in the cup will be the seventh time that Pereira has come up against United since leaving the club. He has been on the winning side just once, back in February 2024. United have won the other five, including a 3-1 win in the FA Cup quarter final in 2023.
