A major UK airport is already benefiting hugely from a massive £1.3billion renovation. Terminal 2 at the popular Manchester Airport is in the middle of a significant transformation, with a completion date set for next year.
When completed in 2025, Manchester’s Terminal 2 will be double its current size and will serve more than 70 percent of the airport’s passengers.
The incredible redesign and expansion means that British passengers will travel through one of the country’s busiest airports in style.
The renovated terminal will include 27 new restaurants, bars, and shops, with the specific shops set to be announced later this year.
The final renovation phase is focused on the east side of Terminal 2, including a second pier with additional boarding gates.
According to Time Out, the revamped Terminal 2 will feature a “market-style food hall” and there will also be a “boutique shopping area” called The Avenue. There will also be a champagne bar, artisan cafes and a brasserie.
Meanwhile, a high-tech new baggage system will feature more than two miles of conveyor belts with the power to process more than 3,000 bags per hour.
The first phase, which opened in July 2021, focused on the west side of Terminal 2 and has already received rave reviews.
Last November, Terminal 2 was named one of the most beautiful airports in the world by the prestigious Prix Versailles architecture award. Judges praised the terminal’s “inspiring” and “perfectly mastered” design.
Earlier this year, Manchester Airport also reported record passenger traffic for the sixth consecutive month.
The airport welcomed 2,152,799 passengers in March, 12 percent up on the same month last year, and also above the the pre-pandemic levels of 2019.
Jill Fraser, Manchester Airport Transformation Programme delivery director, said: “The last 12 months have seen an incredible amount of work and it’s amazing to see the project really taking shape.
“From the creation of more than 500 jobs, to the work to improve the way the airfield works – this is a huge project but one that will have so many benefits for our passengers.
“We’ve already started to see some of the benefits of the programme, with our passengers who have used Terminal 2 giving amazing feedback and the award of the prestigious Prix Versailles. And the exciting thing is that we’ve not even finished yet – so we’re looking forward to an epic 18 months ahead.
“We’re proud to connect the North to the world and are looking forward to passengers seeing everything we deliver.”
Meanwhile, Leeds Bradford Airport and Teesside Airport are also undergoing significant renovations worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
