The first two months of the Kentucky basketball season are over, and they were certainly fun. The Wildcats went 11 – 2 and are currently ranked 11th in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. They’ve defied a lot of expectations.
Today, the real season begins, though, as Kentucky starts SEC play. It’s a loaded conference this year, with multiple national championship contenders and even more teams capable of a deep NCAA Tournament run.

The Wildcats open conference play against the Florida Gators. They are currently undefeated and ranked sixth in the country. They haven’t had a true test yet, but they have looked fantastic thus far.
There will be a lot of interest in this one, both from fans of the teams, and nationally, as it’s a battle of two of the best teams in college basketball up to this point.

This should be a terrific matchup, and it might come down to Lamont Butler and Otega Oweh’s ability to defend Walter Clayton Jr. They will have to stay out on him and not let him get hot from three point range. If they do, and can get their own shots going, the Cats should win.
