The Kentucky Wildcats have reached out to a lot of transfers, but not many of the available names mentioned are true point guards.
Enter Elijah Hawkins.
According to Travis Branham of 247 Sports, Kentucky has contacted Hawkins.
Other schools in the mix include Creighton, Texas Tech, Villanova, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Vanderbilt, among others.
Minnesota transfer Elijah Hawkins has heard from the following schools, a source tells @247SportsPortal:
Kentucky
Creighton
Texas Tech
Villanova
Florida State
South Carolina
Wake Forest
West Virgina
Seton hall
Oklahoma State

Georgia
Vanderbilt

A class of 2021 signee of Howard, Hawkins spent two seasons with the Bison before transferring to Minnesota this past season. As a true junior, he averaged 9.5 points (39.3% from the field and 36.4% on 3s), 7.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 2.7 turnovers per contest.
Of his 7.3 field-goal attempts per game, 3.9 come from 3-point range, so that explains his low overall shooting percentage.
In a 73-72 win over Butler in the NIT, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound Hawkins dropped a ridiculous 15(!) assists to go with 11 points and six rebounds. He had 17 assists in a December win over IUPUI and finished the season with eight games of double-digit assists.
With the kind of roster Mark Pope hopes to assemble, having a guy like Hawkins to run the show could be just what Kentucky needed.
