The Kentucky Wildcats welcomed the Georgia State Panthers to Lexington on Friday night for some post-Thanksgiving basketball. After a slow start, the Cats rushed past the Panthers, 105-76.
As the holiday weekend started to wind down, things did not calm down in Lexington and Rupp Arena. The BBN packed out this arena as the Cats headed out on the road. This UK team did not disappoint again.
After a rough start to the game that was followed by an impressive run, the Cats got the offense going and helped open up a 15-lead at the half, 48-33.
Coming out of the half, Kentucky got the best punch from Georgia State, as the Panthers cut the lead down to six points about five minutes into the half.
With some sleepiness on the court from the Cats, it was a scuffle that helped push this squad over the hump to lead to the blowout of the Panthers.
Now, the Cats will turn their attention to the biggest week of the season with the Clemson Tigers and Gonzaga Bulldogs on the schedule.
Should be some fun ones.
Go Cats!
There were several players tonight who could have won this award, but I think we need to give this one to Amari Williams. He finished the night with 14 points on 4/6 shooting. Williams also added six rebounds, three assists, and a steal while going 6/6 from the charity stripe, an area he’s struggled at this season.
After a tough night against Western Kentucky on Tuesday, the fifth-year big man completely flipped the script tonight. Not only did he impress in the paint, but he also dished out a few killer assists and cruised on the defensive boards.
When he plays like this, the Cats take on a whole new level. Going to need him to show up big time on the two road games this week.
As I talked about in the scouting report, Georgia State plays VERY soft drop coverage with the 5. A ton of room to drive into off ballscreens/handoffs.
Both Jaxson Robinson floaters were a product of that. Lamont Butler had a deep drive.
Keep attacking to turn the corner.

LET’S BLOW THESE GUYS OUT!!!
#21 is an absolute CLOWN. Dirty, dirty player.

We just had our first on court “fight” and Mark Pope was one of the first to run out there and break it up, holding a Georgia State player back and away from his players.
Many people will say they have your back, but to no-hesitation jump out there and showcase it speaks…

Kentucky was 33/41 from 2-point range. Lol.
Great Rupp atmosphere, can tell the fan base is dialed into this season.

Jerry Tipton would be proud of the crowds this year.

We only shot 27% from three and we scored 105.

Mark Pope (who has clearly lost his voice a bit): “I thought it was a great night of basketball with all the saltiness.”
Said his team “pulled together” after things got physical.

Georgia State is the funniest non-power opponent Kentucky has faced in a while.
A player named “Clash” becomes a villain after multiple dirty plays.
HC in the postgame: “I don’t know why you wan’t to talk to me, we just got 30-balled.”
