Yorkshire Day (August 1) is upon us once more, and with the weather treating the UK well, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore one of the county’s lesser-known treasures.
Cornwall may be famed for its “crystal blue” waters, but Yorkshire’s east coast boasts its own slice of paradise at Flamborough Head – an eight-mile marvel nestled between the bays of Filey and Bridlington on the North Sea.
A TikTok video showcasing the area’s breathtaking beauty saw its creator exclaim: “There’s nothing more beautiful than the Yorkshire coastline.”
The clip’s caption then singles out a particularly stunning spot: “But one part in particular really stands out, North Landing in Flamborough is simply stunning. A hidden gem you won’t want to miss.”
Other TikTok users have been quick to express their awe, with comments such as: “Wow, that’s gorgeous!” as another person reminisced: “I left on holiday there and I have never seen water as clean as that. It was like you water you get out of a tap, it’s not even showing up on camera how clear it is.”
Another clip gives viewers a glimpse of the iconic Flamborough Head lighthouse perched on the chalk cliffs, which are a haven for seabirds such as puffins and kittiwakes in the area’s idyllic surroundings.
One fan of the area shared their experience: “I go paddle boarding here, it’s amazing to paddle board into the caves.” Another individual enthused about North Landing: “I’ve been there recently and it’s stunning. My favourite place.”
The perspective found agreement with a third person who chimed in: “I’ve been there, actually very nice and beautiful place. I advise to visit it.” While a fourth commenter echoed these sentiments: “It’s my most favourite place in the world. Just been for a week and never wanna leave.”
And after a curious traveller inquired about the terrain, the original poster reassured them: “Super easy, although the steps down to the beach from the lighthouse are steep, just be careful.”
The inaugural Yorkshire Day was marked in 1975 in Beverly as a demonstration against local government re-structuring effected by the Local Government Act of 1972.
The commemorative day also honours the Battle of Minden, a 1759 confrontation between Britain-Hanover and French forces, and the abolition of slavery across the British Empire in 1834 a crusade tirelessly waged by Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce.
