Sustainable knitwear brand Herd and fellow sustainable fashion stylist Bay Garnett have collaborated on their first collection.
Drawing inspiration from early 1970s silhouettes, the Herd x Bay Garnett collection “blends traditional knitwear designs with a beatnik edge”, featuring five distinct knitwear pieces. The collection also sees the introduction of luxury leather accessories, a first for Herd.
Bags and belts are made with British Pasture Leather, the first supply of leather from the hides of cattle raised on regenerative farms in the UK. These designs also use leather sourced from certified pasture-fed cattle, and processed using traditional vegetable tanning techniques.
Herd founder Ruth Alice Rands said of the collaboration: “Bay and I first met over our shared love of sustainable fashion, from our different and complementary perspectives of thrifting and regenerative fashion. The pieces are named for Bay’s muses, friends, and women whose style is epitomised by the collections.”
Garnett added: “When co-designing this collection… I was inspired by the cool rock n’ roll look and spirit of the 1970s. I used to collect 1970s Vogue knitting books and admired the stylish cool looking women in their roll-neck sweaters; always accessorised with a great belt or jewellery.
She added: “The collection is also very much inspired by Jackie Onassis and Jane Birkin’s cool pared-down narrow elegant 70s-style chic. I always loved those pictures of Jackie Onassis walking in Central Park; ribbed roll neck, low slung belt and gold chain necklace. Hard to beat — I wanted sweaters with that same appeal. Anita Pallenberg’s chunky sweaters with gold buttons also inspired me; blending heritage and rock n’ roll.”
The collection is priced £185-£945 available on the brand’s website.
