Trescothick said that he expected Brook to captain in an aggressive way and praised Phil Salt’s captaincy in the two T20 clashes.
He added: “I don’t think it’ll be much different to what we’ve had here with with Phil doing the job. We’ve got a couple of good guys behind the scenes who understand the game well, and now that they come from the mould of what we’re trying to do – which is a positive style of cricket.”
Leicestershire’s left-arm quick bowler Josh Hull, who made his Test debut in the final Test against Sri Lanka, has also been ruled out of the series with a quad injury. Hull has already been selected for the three-Test tour of Pakistan, which begins on Oct 7. But at this stage his withdrawal is understood to be precautionary, with England saying they have no concerns about his availability in Pakistan.
Following an outstanding run in the first two T20 games against Australia, Liam Livingstone is recalled to the one-day international squad. He is now a strong contender to slot in in Buttler’s position at number six, depending on how England decide to balance their side.
Either Salt or Jamie Smith could keep wicket. Salt performed the role in the first two T20 games against Australia, but Smith is now the Test keeper. Speaking on Sky Sports, Buttler revealed he would not have kept wicket in the T20 series against Australia had he been fit.
Jofra Archer, England’s star pace bowler, will continue to be managed during the five-game ODI series. At this stage Archer seems likely to play around three of the matches, but his fitness will be continually assessed.
“He knows the plan, it’s discussed long in advance of picking the team on each day,” Trescothick said. “We know what we’re doing and where we’re going and he’s comfortable because he knows what he’s doing.”
