The Chinese New Year is almost upon us and Harrods is at the forefront of the Year of the Snake celebrations. The London luxury department store is going all-out with its exclusive Chinese Spring Festival this year stretching across fashion, dining and hospitality with the extended experience taking place across 9-21 January.
It’s an important event for Harrods and its high-end customers and the event “continues its commitment to global luxury and celebrating Chinese cultural heritage”, the retailer said.
Collaborator for the event is Chinese fashion platform LabelHood, which is hosting the 12-day pop-up with a truly wide-ranging showcase of Chinese designers.
It starts with the Knightsbridge store’s exhibition windows that “come alive” with a showcase of fashion and homewares, featuring an array of emerging Chinese designers.
Their accompanying collections explore the retailer’s New Year theme of ‘Spiritual Homeland’, “blending traditional elements with bold, contemporary design”.
Headed by key designers Tangxindan, Ya Yi, and Samuel Gui Yang, they’re among 1,300 brands to be featured in this exclusive showcase. The result is a fashion showcase “inspired by the art of creative journeys of young Chinese artists in Jingdezhen”.
Visitors to the pop-up will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a range of unique experiences “engaging with the vibrant intersection of traditional and modern Chinese culture through exclusive activations within the space”.
Central to the event will be ‘The Family Portrait’ captured by photographer Leslie Zhang, heralded as the standout element of the pop-up, “capturing the nostalgia of childhood memories of growing up in China and evoking a true sense of Spiritual Homeland in every image”, we’re told.
Harrods said: “The Year of the Snake provides us with a moment to reflect on our commitment to celebrating diverse cultures and craftsmanship. This year’s Spring Festival offerings are a testament to our ability to create unique, memorable experiences that resonate with both our local and international communities, reinforcing our position as a leader in luxury retail.”
