Golf star Bryson DeChambeau made a surprise and somewhat awkward appearance on stage during Donald Trump’s victory speech in Florida.
After a dramatic election night in America, Trump secured his return to the White House for a second term after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.
In what became an early victory speech in Mar-a-Lago, the President-elect addressed his swathes of fans and extended thanks to family and friends who joined him on stage.
But the 78-year-old was also quick to thank others in attendance, including two-time US Open champion DeChambeau.
‘We have up here today the US Open champion, he’s a fantastic golfer,’ Trump said. ‘Obviously, he hits the ball slightly longer than me – just a little bit.
Pausing to look around, Trump initially failed to spot DeChambeau on stage.
‘Bryson DeChambeau is up here somewhere,’ he exclaimed. ‘What happened to Bryson? Where is he? Bryson! He’s hitting balls. He’s on the way?’
Eventually, the LIV Golf star, who featured Trump in one of his YouTube videos that racked up 12 million views, made his way to the stage albeit rather sheepishly.
Wearing a black ‘Make America Great Again’ cap, the 31-year-old waved back at Trump but looked rather uncomfortable up on stage.
‘He’s got a great career going,’ added Trump. ‘Great US Open, Bryson – that was a fantastic job.’
Trump also namechecked UFC CEO Dana White, a fervent supporter of soon-to-be 47th President, and invited him up to the lectern to say a few words.
‘Nobody deserves this more than him, and nobody deserves this more than his family does,’ White said.
‘This is what happens when the machine comes after you. What you’ve seen over the last couple of years, this is what it looks like
‘[They] couldn’t stop him, he keeps going forward, he doesn’t quit he’s the most resilient, hard-working man I’ve ever seen in my life. His family are incredible people.
‘This is karma, ladies and gentlemen. He deserves this. They deserve it as a family.’
