Calling all fitness resolutionists! A new survey conducted by PureGym has revealed that 76 per cent of people in the UK ‘aspire’ to be fit and healthy upon entering 2025 — and the towns and cities best suited for fulfilling these ambitions have been revealed…
Destinations across the country were analysed against criteria including the number of cycle paths, walking trails, fitness facilities and environmental aspects, such as average rainfall and air quality.
Cheltenham came in fifth place, following Worcester, Cambridge and Colchester, with Bath racing ahead to take the first place medal.
The regency Gloucestershire town achieved an overall fitness score of 7.38 out of 10, thanks to its 1.89 cycle paths per 10,000 people; 4.47 fitness facilities per 10,000 people; and its 6.78 walking trails per 10,000 people.
It also had one of the best air qualities in the whole 15-strong list at 5.99, compared to the worst on the list in Norwich at 7.54.
Searches for ‘new year fitness resolution’ have risen 70 per cent over final months of 2024; and despite the chilly winter weather, a study by Nuffield Health found that the UK is moving 18 minutes more per week on average compared to stats in 2022.
