No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats basketball returns to the court tonight as they host Georgia State at Rupp Arena.
The Wildcats are in search of their seventh consecutive victory to start the season in what is the first of three remaining “cupcake” games on Kentucky’s schedule.
Through three and a half weeks, Mark Pope’s team has rattled off wins against Wright State, Bucknell, Duke, Lipscomb, Jackson State and Western Kentucky.
The Wildcats are coming off their worst shooting performance of the season on Tuesday when they leaned a bit more on defense and rebounding to pull away from WKU in the second half.
Pope’s team understands that every game can’t be lights out from behind the arc and the team can’t be solely reliant on the outside shot. Sometimes, when the offense hits a cold stretch, Kentucky is going to have to find efficient ways to score points.
Owning or at least hustling on the boards is one way while making free throws is another.
Free throw shooting was flat-out terrible against WKU on Tuesday night and really kept Kentucky from pulling away until the final stretch. It’s an area the Wildcats have to improve on and considering how well they can shoot the basketball, it would make sense if it suddenly starts to click for UK.
According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, the Wildcats enter tonight’s game with a 98.2% chance to win. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM ET with coverage on the SEC Network.
