A flight attendant has shared the reason why passengers shouldn’t take their shoes off and walk around in socks on planes.
In a TikTok video, cabin crew member Destanie explained that while it might be tempting to ditch your footwear, you might regret it. She said: “A lot of people talk about this, but it’s the fact that you should not have your shoes off walking around the airplane, and I’ve always known that airplane floors are gross.
“But I though if you had like a nice pair of thick socks it would be fine to take off your shoes in an airplane.
“But it’s not. These airplanes are not thoroughly clean, they’re just basically like surface clean so these carpets are really disgusting. There’s probably remnants of like pee or other fluids on there.”
She also claimed the bathroom floors on many planes aren’t mopped as often as you might hope and, thanks to time constraints, are sometimes simply wiped down instead.
On one occasion she claimed she had found urine all over the bathroom floor of an aircraft, possibly due to turbulence while a customer was in the stall. During another incident a passenger defecated all over the bathroom, including on the walls, according to the cabin crew member.
The video sparked reactions from TikTokers, with one commenting: “Who on God’s green earth is walking around the airplane in socks?”
Another person asked: “Why don’t they get the planes cleaned tho? Like hire a lil plane cleaner team and make it worth the prices of flying.”
Destanie confirmed there are cleaners, but they often have to work swiftly in time for the next takeoff.
