A spokesperson for the shopping centre, home to stores such as Peacocks, Sports Direct and Sandersons, said the centre was briefly evacuated this morning (Friday, January 24) because of a small fire in the basement area.

The fire occurred in an electrical fuse box.

Nobody was injured.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident at the centre, which launched its market area in the summer of 2020 and is located in King Street in Stroud.

Two fire engines were sent, both from Stroud.

The venue has now reopened.

“Five Valleys is back open after we had to briefly evacuate the centre earlier this morning due to a small fire in the basement area,” a spokesperson for the shopping centre wrote on social media this morning.

“The incident was quickly dealt with thanks to Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

“Thank you also to all our customers and businesses for safely evacuating.

“No-one was hurt, and the centre has now reopened.

“Our Peacocks store will be opening a little later today.”

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 10.05am to reports of a fire at Five Valleys Shopping Centre in Stroud.

“Two fire engines were sent to the scene, both from Stroud, to deal with a fire in an electrical fuse box.

“The centre was evacuated while the fire was dealt with and the stop time was 11.50am.”
