Five fire engines were deployed to an industrial business after receiving reports of smoke seen in the roof area.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said on arrival crews confirmed there was a fire on the first floor of the industrial property in Tavistock and it was “well alight”.
The fire service said the incident happened at 06:36 BST on Saturday at Pixon Trading Centre on Pixon Lane.
Crews from Bere Alston, Tavistock and Yelverton were at the scene. The fire service said it was a “significant fire” at the two-storey building.
“Three fire engines were sent to an industrial property, where there was a report of smoke seen in the roof area,” the fire service said.
“Further assistance was requested, so another two fire engines (five in total) were sent, as well as an aerial ladder platform and command support unit.”
In an update, the fire service said: “The fire is at the Pixon Trading Centre and was contained to the laundry services on the first floor.
“The ground floor is used for tool hire and the first floor for laundry. It looked like quite a significant fire.”
At 11:20 BST it said the fire had been extinguished and there was one appliance at the scene.
“The first floor was 100% damaged by heat and smoke. Ground floor damaged by water only,” the fire service said.
