Martin Kemp, Toyah Willcox, and Sinitta brought a touch of nostalgia to fans as they operated a 1980s-themed shopping ‘hotline’.
The trio, who became household names during the flamboyant decade, were on hand to answer calls from enthusiasts of the era, selling them vintage-inspired clothing.
Kemp, the bassist for the iconic band Spandau Ballet, dished out ‘Gold’ standard one-liners and even serenaded a lucky fan with his chart-topping tune over the phone. Meanwhile, Toyah, with more than 20 albums under her belt, humorously warned customers: “Don’t trust Martin, Sinitta and I to place your order – all we’re good at is singing.”
Beverly Cregor, a 61 year old superfan from Radlett, couldn’t hide her excitement: “I couldn’t believe I got to talk to Sinitta it was totally surreal to chat to her about my style sense in the ’80s.”
The hotline initiative was launched by fashion retailer White Stuff in celebration of its 40th anniversary, coinciding with the release of a revamped version of their original sweatshirts and t-shirts from 1985.
In anticipation of its landmark birthday, White Stuff asked its clientele on which classic styles to resurrect, leading to the creation of the Rewind ’85 collection.
This throwback range includes updated “Boys” and “Girls” tees, along with a selection of ski and surf-influenced half-zip sweatshirts that channel the essence of the 80s and 90s.
Shoppers nationwide can experience 80s-style shopping until 6th March. By dialling the hotline number on 0800 193 1985, they can get their hands on these limited-edition 80s inspired threads.
Jo Jenkins, the CEO, stated: “We have always been about community, creativity, and a bit of fun.
“Our customers have been asking us to bring back some of our original designs, so what better way to celebrate our 40th birthday than with a collection inspired by our roots?”
“And, of course, we had to go all in by reviving the 80s hotline shopping experience. It’s not every day we set to work three of the era’s biggest icons in our call centre!”
