Earlier we mentioned how Baku can bring out a lot of emotions with the drivers (as seen with the crash between Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen for Red Bull back in 2018) and the year before in 2017 was another crazy race…
Sebastian Vettel was leading the championship, with Lewis Hamilton in second, so tension was already high between the pair.
During the race Vettel hit the back of Hamilton’s Mercedes during a safety car period. The Ferrari driver thought the Brit was brake testing, so moved his car alongside Hamilton and deliberately made contact – eventually receiving a 10-second penalty for the move.
Also it will be remembered as a race where Lance Stroll finished third on the podium for Williams. (In what was a happier times, Ricciardo was the race winner, that day, with Valtteri Bottas in second.)
