A popular travel expert has warned tourists that travelling with a popular budget airline may not be as cheap as they were expecting if they choose some common extras.
Ryan and Jade run the YouTube channel Live The Dash and regularly upload short videos giving advice to tourists planning on visiting a number of popular holiday destinations and share useful tips.
In a recent video, Ryan shares how much the cost of a budget flight with Ryanair costs if a passenger wants to buy all of the optional extras available.
He explained: “How much do all of the Ryanair add-ons really cost? I have managed to find return flights to Paris for £30.98. First things first, let’s get extra-legroom seat 1C, which is £21 and reserve the same seat on the flight back.
“Let’s skip the long queues at security with the fast track, only £6.85 per person. Now it’s time for bags. Priority speedy boarding and two cabin bags: £7.50 per flight. 20kg check-in bag and then insurance, pre-paid credit to spend on board. So, the £30 flight to Paris is now costing me £180.83.”
In the video, Ryan was able to use a flight comparison website and find a return flight from Manchester to Paris for just £30.98.
However, by adding extras such as carry-on luggage and a faster boarding time, the low figure rose by around £150 to £180.83.
As a result, the cost of making the journey with the budget brand ended up costing just as much as many more upmarket airlines.
Serving 13.6 million passengers in March 2024, one of Ryanairs biggest selling points is its no-nonsense attitude and incredibly low fares.
However, whilst flights with the company are often cheaper than competitors, they do not have the same features that tourists have come to expect from other airline companies.
In particular, the company only allows passengers to take a small bag with them, such as a handbag or laptop case, with no extra charge, with check-in bags costing at least £11.99.
With more than 188,000 views and 6,600 likes, many tourists were split in their opinions on whether the options were worth the extra expense.
One viewer wrote: “This is why we switched to British Airways. The same prices with a bag included, seat selection included and even get a snack and a bottle of water, and a better airport selection.”
However, another argued: “This is a bit like walking into a restaurant and being shocked at the price when you ask for one of everything on the menu.”
Hidden behind the most popular and frequently visited tourist attractions, such as Buda Castle and Heroes' Square, lie even more unique experiences that make a
