Experts have shared the exact times you should book if you want the cheapest flights to destinations in France, Spain, Germany and more. Consumer champion platform Which? has analysed flights information from Skyscanner.
It found that some flights were at their cheapest some six months in advance, while for other routes travellers got the best deals by booking as little as five weeks before departure. Part of a Which? article reads: “For Paris it was 26 weeks – meaning for a late-July trip you’d need to book this week.
“However, for other destinations the cheapest flights were bagged just a few weeks before departure. For summer holidays to the Algarve (Faro) it was five weeks, Athens six weeks, and Tenerife 10 weeks.”
The price of your flight will, of course, also depend on when you want to travel. If you don’t care about the weather, book when your destination is likely to be cold.
When to book your flight for the cheapest deal also depends on when you want to fly. For example, if you want a flight to Amsterdam in April, or at Christmas, book 20 weeks ahead – but if you want to travel in August, this changes to 15 weeks prior.
Flights to Barcelona at Christmas are at their cheapest 17 weeks ahead, but for August it’s 13 weeks before, and for April it’s also 17 weeks. Berlin flights for April or August are at their lowest prices 20 weeks beforehand, but for Christmas this changes to 20 weeks.
Paris trips are at their cheapest at 21 weeks before, 26 weeks before, and 15 weeks before, for April, August and Christmas respectively. You can find out more by reading the Which? article in full here
