Carlos Alcaraz is one of tennis’ bright young things and now he is garnering attention for his off-court life.
The 21-year-old has won four Grand Slam titles, including the 2024 French Open, the 2022 US Open and back-to-back Wimbledon titles in 2023 and 2024. The young Spanish star might well be the player to follow in the footsteps of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, however, with such recognition comes great interest in who he is dating.
Speaking last year, the world number three talked about how difficult it was to keep relationships going due to the nature of his job, alluded to a break-up, and claimed he had been single for 18 months. However, despite guarding his personal life with intense privacy there have been rumours that his ex-girlfriend is fellow tennis pro Maria Gonzalez Gimenez, while the star has also been linked with Britain’s own tennis ace, Emma Raducanua and US Open champion Iga Swiatek.
Speaking to Vogue, the 21-year-old opened up on how tricky keeping a romantic life can be when you’re constantly on the road. “It’s complicated, never staying in one place,” he said, adding: “It’s hard to find the person who can share things with you if you’re always in different parts of the world.”
However, although neither have ever confirmed the relationship, Alcaraz was heavily linked with Giménez. The 24-year-old is believed to hail from the same Spanish city as Alcaraz, Murcia, and in addition to also being a tennis player, she graduated with a bilingual law degree from her home town university in June.
In 2023, Tennis Tonic shared a screenshot from Alcaraz’s Instagram story, picturing the tennis star giving Maria a kiss on the cheek. “I miss you,” the caption on the photo read.
Carlos and María still follow each other on the social media platform, but there have also been wild rumours that he may be dating Spanish singer Ana Mena and Brit sensation Raducanu. Nevertheless, despite rampant speculation, speaking with The Sunday Times this past June, Alcaraz said that he is currently single but did declare: “I am looking for someone.”
Whether that someone is Emma Raducanu or Swiatek is hard to say. Rumours of a romance with the Polish star have been swirling but he has refused to be drawn on rumours he’s dating 21-year-old Raducanu – even after the Brit was seen attending his Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic in July.
Speaking after his triumph, the Spaniard made very little out of Raducanu’s attendance and simply insisted if there was a tournament played in his homeland he would also attend. “I don’t know. I guess a lot of people came to see the final,” he said when asked why Raducanu was there.
“She is from here, so I imagine that she wanted to come and see it. If there was a Grand Slam in Murcia I would watch the finals 100 per cent. I don’t know if she came to the finals or if she came to see me. Who knows? You have to question her, but I hope she enjoyed the final.” he added.
The former US Open champion herself didn’t expand on why she was at the game but she did claim that, after watching Alcaraz, she drew inspiration from his style of play and that she’s even been at a few of his matches, saying: “The last couple matches I’ve been following Carlos and it’s just good to watch before my own match. And sometimes in certain moments you in a way try to emulate certain shots or whatever.”
While Raducanu is understood to be single having split up with her ex-boyfriend Carlo Agostinelli this summer. Alcaraz revealed that he spends a lot of time at home when he’s not on the tennis circuit, perhaps dispelling any rumours he’s involved in a romance for now, saying: “I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers. To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy.”
