Looking to book a summer holiday? The team at Which?Travel have searched for this year’s cheapest package holiday destinations.
According to the team’s research, opting for the right destination could “shave hundreds of pounds off a week away”.
British tourists might find the results a little surprising as typically cheap destinations such as Bulgaria and Turkey missed out on a place in the top 10.
Instead, the Amalfi Coast and the Greek islands found their way into the ranking, destinations that many would expect to come with a luxury price tag.
The team at Which? Travel found that the Amalfi Coast had a huge selection of offers for room-only, or self catering accommodation available.
Flights were also affordable but Britons will need to bear in mind that the cost of eating out or doing an activity could cause the price of their holiday to surge.
When it came to Greece, Kalymnos was the cheapest island destination with a week’s stay costing just £847 per person on average.
Thassos and Lefkada were the next cheapest Greek islands both coming in at under £1,000 per person.
Spain’s Costa Brava landed just outside the top three and was the country’s cheapest package holiday destination.
The beautiful stretch of coastline just north of Barcelona came in at £952 per person although prices heavily varied between different resort towns in the region.
Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, said: “Travelling in the summer holidays is notoriously expensive, and demand is high again this year – but our latest price analysis shows that by being flexible on your destination, you can potentially save hundreds of pounds.
“Many of the locations we found aren’t those you’d necessarily assume would be the cheapest – but from tiny, traditional Greek islands to the glitzy Amalfi coast, there are bargains to be found this summer.”
