The UK is starting its ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) application process for European nationals. Beginning on March 5, 2025, citizens from over 30 European countries, including children, will be able to apply for this authorisation in advance, as it becomes mandatory for travel to the UK starting April 2, 2025.
It’s important to note that an ETA is not a visa but a mandatory entry permit for travellers from countries that do not require a visa to visit the UK. Currently, the ETA costs GBP 10 (approximately USD 13), but this price is expected to increase to GBP 16 (around USD 21). The ETA allows for multiple entries into the UK for stays of up to 6 months at a time, and it is valid for 2 years or until the holder’s passport expires, whichever comes first.

The decision to implement the ETA aims to enhance border security and prevent the entry of individuals who may pose a threat to the country. Processing an ETA can take up to three working days, although, in rare cases, it may take longer. If your ETA application is rejected, you can reapply or apply directly for a visa.
Apple users can apply through the app available on the App Store, while Android users can use the app found on the Play Store. For further guidance on UK ETA applications, please visit the official website.
British citizens and Irish citizens are exempt from applying for an ETA.
