The townscape is dominated by the remains of a Norman castle – the home to the fourth wife of King Henry VIII, Anne of Cleves.
At Anne of Cleves House, visitors can take a step back into time to explore how the Tudors and Elizabethans lived, worked and relaxed at home.
But the main attraction would be climbing Lewes Castle, which offers spectacular views across the Sussex countryside.
Surrounded by the South Downs National Park, set sight on rolling hills and unspoilt coastline.

In the market town, there are beautiful boutiques, antique shops, bookstores, eateries and historic pubs.
Additional attractions include Southover Grange Gardens, National Trust’s Monk’s House, Blackberry Farm, and Firle Place.
Elsewhere, Queensferry near Edinburgh nabbed the title as the second prettiest town across the UK.
Queensferry offers the best views of the River Forth; spectators might catch sight of seals.
Then there’s Forth Bridge, a railway bridge that is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gorgeous stately homes in the area include Hopetoun House and Dalmeny House; both have majestic grounds and remarkable interiors.
