The series is currently level at 1-1. Australia won by 28 runs in Southampton, thanks in large part to the efforts of Travis Head (59) and Sean Abbott (3-28).
The hosts hit back in the second match in Cardiff. Chasing a stiff target of 194, England rode on contributions from Liam Livingstone (87) and youngster Jacob Bethell (44) to get over the line with an over to spare.
But with a tantalising series decider in prospect, it looks as though the weather will have the final say.
The match is set to get underway at 2:30pm local time, and after overnight rain it has also been raining at the ground since 9:15am. The forecast for the rest of the afternoon is quite bleak as well.
BBC Weather predicts continuous rain until 6:00pm, with the chances of precipitation quite high at around 80 per cent throughout the afternoon. Chances of rain at 3:00pm, just after the scheduled start, are 84 per cent.
Accuweather’s predictions are slightly more optimistic, but bleak nonetheless. Chances of precipitation hover around 60-65 percent, with a drop to 40 percent by 5:00pm. If this holds, there might be a chance of a shortened match being fit in.

According to Weather.com, rain is set to continue until 4:00pm, with the chances being as high as 92 per cent around the scheduled start time. It does say that this could be light rain, which is slightly more hopeful.
The UK Met Office has also issued a moderate fog warning for the Greater Manchester area until 10:00am local time on Monday, September 16 which reads as follows: “It is looking like one of the first occasions in autumn 2024 when we will see more widespread fog developing overnight and lasting well into the morning. Some of this could be quite dense, making journey times longer.”
