The celebrated Paris jeweler Elie Top has revealed plans to fete his 10th anniversary with a new collection entitled ‘Liaisons Dangereuses’ that he will unveil inside Christie’s Paris.
Top will mark this anniversary on tony Avenue Matignon, inside the elegant salons of Christie’s Paris. Where before a happy few he will present Liaisons Dangereuses, a collection dedicated to the Age of Enlightenment. It will be accompanied by an exhibition named “Metamorphosis”, featuring the most outstanding jewelry created during this past decade.
It is a three-day event that will run from January 27 to 29, during the next Paris haute couture runway season, celebrating this high point of Elie’s career in a symbolic location.
Flemish born, Top’s passion for drawing began at a very young age, leading Elie into the world of jewelry. Reaching Paris aged 17, he studied at the Ecoles de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, before then joining Yves Saint Laurent at just 19.
Working under Monsieur Saint Laurent, and his right-hand woman and accessories designer Loulou de la Falaise, shaped Top’s taste and helped him develop rigor and exacting standards.
Later he joined Lanvin with Alber Elbaz, who entrusted him to create his first jewelry pieces at the age of 21. A collaboration that continued at Lanvin for more than ten years, developing “bijou couture” jewelry that won Top a cult following.
Creating a unique aesthetic blending art and conflicting design movements like Art Deco or Baroque yet managing to foster a certain exotic harmony in his style. Playful yet polished, intricate yet strong, Elie Top’s style and signature is one of the most important in jewelry this century.
“Jewelry is a matter of transmission. It crosses generations, sometimes centuries and recounts its time, loved ones, glorious ancestors, happy moments… Sometimes an object of value, but mostly sentimental. From an era to another, it is metamorphosed under the influence of fashion and circumstances,” insisted Elie.
A key link-up was with Baccarat, where Top signed, for the first time under his own name, the Bouchons de Carafe collection. Leading Elie to launch his own jewelry brand and open the house of Elie Top in 2015.
His next stop is in Christie’s.
