Italian luxury label Dolce & Gabbana has chosen Rome for the first time as the venue of its 2025 haute couture collection show, having previously staged shows in Sicily in 2022, Puglia in 2023, and Sardinia this year. In the first fortnight in July, Dolce & Gabbana will unveil in Rome the Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria haute couture collections, as well as the latest items from its fine jewellery collection, “in some of the city’s most remarkable locations, which will soon be revealed.”
Dolce & Gabbana launched its haute couture project in July 2012, deciding to present it exclusively in Italy, away from the frenzy of Paris Haute Couture Week. Each time, the label has chosen an iconic location, where it has showcased sumptuous collections putting Italy’s couture expertise and heritage centre-stage, often collaborating with local artisans whose work was highlighted by the label on each occasion. In July 2014, Dolce & Gabbana added the menswear Alta Sartoria counterpart to the women’s Alta Moda collections. The Rome event will last several days and has been conceived as an extremely exclusive occasion, chiefly targeted at Dolce & Gabbana’s wealthiest customers.
It will be “an ideal Grand Tour of Italy,” the label said in a press release. “A journey through the many landscapes of beauty and the wonders of this country, aiming to celebrate Italy’s fascination, history and cultural heritage, fused together with the best haute couture tradition. After the editions staged in Taormina, Milan, Palermo, Naples, Venice, Alberobello, Nora and other cities symbolising Italian culture, Rome is ready to host one of the most highly anticipated events in the world of international fashion during the 2025 summer season,” said Dolce & Gabbana.
“With each collection, we wish to convey a deep connection with local culture and traditions. Being able to present our creations in Rome, with its uniqueness, the grandeur of its monuments and the many hidden corners that tell a story rooted in our own identity, is for us a great dream coming true,” said the label’s founders and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, underlining how overjoyed and honoured they are for having the chance to stage this event in Rome, “an extraordinary city that embodies our love for Italy and its history. For artists and creatives of all epochs, [Rome] has always been, and always will be, an inexhaustible source of inspiration.”
In the press release, the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, noted how the event will take place during the Jubilee celebrations. “Next July, the unique collections that will be presented, expressions of the highest level of Italian craftsmanship, will shine in an even more beautiful and modern Rome, enriched by the renovation work for the Jubilee and the restoration of Caput Mundi [the various renovation interventions planned in the city for the Catholic Church’s Jubilee year, which is scheduled from December 24 2024 to January 6 2026].
“It will be a global event that we absolutely wanted to organise in Rome. This is the first time Dolce & Gabbana will be showing in the capital [of Italy], confirming once again how attractive Rome has become. We have made available the best locations, unique places that no other city can offer. It will be a great promotional showcase that will generate huge economic benefits,” said Alessandro Onorato, deputy mayor of Rome, in charge of major events, sports, tourism and fashion.
Rome is indeed a much sought-after fashion destination, having also been chosen by Christian Dior for the presentation next spring, on May 27 2025, of the cruise collection for spring 2026 designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior’s womenswear.
