Ryan Gravenberch has discussed why matters have changed for him at Liverpool this season under new head coach Arne Slot
Ryan Gravenberch believes he is revelling in the freedom given to him by Arne Slot as he detailed talks with the Liverpool head coach. Gravenberch has been the Reds’ top performer during the opening weeks of the campaign having been switched to a deeper midfield role alongside Alexis Mac Allister.
The 22-year-old has already made more 90-minute appearances this season than in the previous two campaign combined, first at Bayern Munich and then his debut term at Liverpool.
And the midfielder has highlighted the discussions with Slot that have allowed him to replicate his showings at Ajax that first brought him to the attention of leading European clubs.

“The coach gives me confidence and puts me in charge,” said Gravenberch. “I just do my own thing. The things I did at Ajax, I do now too.
“I discuss everything with him. It’s mainly about football. We spoke last season and then it’s also about life.
“I have a good relationship with him and I’m very happy that he’s here. We think the same. He loves football and building from the back. That suits me very well.”
Speaking to ESPN, Gravenberch – who returned to Ajax to watch their 3-1 home win over Groningen on Sunday – also explained his target for the campaign.
“I’m at a top club now, Liverpool,” he said. “I played a lot more last season than the season before. That was my goal.
“This season my goal is to play even more than last season and I’m well on my way.”
