Miles O’Leary and his partner had the opportunity to visit the area in 2023. Sharing his experience with DevonLive, he said: “My other half and I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Esplendido – which translates to ‘gorgeous’ in English, and we couldn’t agree more.

“From the moment you step foot inside, it feels like you’ve walked onto a movie set. The interior is immaculate, fresh, and spacious, with top-notch service to match.

“We opted for a medium sea view room and were astounded by our fortune – the window provided an unimpeded view down to the port where boats glided gracefully. A complimentary bottle of red wine was waiting on the side table, ready to be savoured.”

Miles urges visitors to explore the back of the hotel and prepare to be stunned by the awe-inspiring tiered garden, adorned with towering trees that provide not only shade but also a sense of privacy.

He said: “The entire place radiates elegance – modern, luxurious, sleek – with a hint of an Agatha Christie novel in its vintage architectural details. The absolute highlight of this dreamy getaway – which we had to keep reminding ourselves wasn’t located halfway across the globe in some exotic location – was the infinity pool situated near the top of the hotel grounds, offering a breathtaking view of the port.

“One late afternoon, other hotel guests came up and stared in awe, phones in hand, capturing the stunning view. One American visitor was practically lost for words as I tried to make small talk.”

If lounging in the sun isn’t quite your thing, fear not, as the bay area is brimming with activities. While the port’s offerings may come at a premium, those willing to splurge will find an array of upscale dining options promising exclusivity and serenity.

Miles said: “We stumbled upon a delightful family cafe that served generous portions of avocado and feta or salmon on sourdough, accompanied by large iced coffees and tea at reasonable prices. By night, the cafe transforms into a bar, serving ice-cold beers and vibrant cocktails that set the holiday mood as people from all walks of life unwind. And of course, there’s an abundance of paella and fried baby squid in the Balearics to satisfy even the largest of appetites.”

For those who prefer a gentle promenade, the Soller tram offers a scenic glide past, ferrying more tourists to the seaside daily. The waters here are invitingly clear, perfect for a swim, snorkelling, or even paddle boarding for the more adventurous.
