The house of Dior has gone to Thailand to open its latest boutique, an unprecedented Gold House concept store located in in central Bangkok’s Ploenchit district.
A Dior Gold House, which opens Friday evening, and is deigned to evolve according to the seasons and collections, part of an unexpected stopover on the Dior Around the World odyssey.
Merging cultures and savoir-faire, Dior Gold House invites visitors to a bewitching immersion in what the Paris-based brand terms a “reinvented kingdom of dreams.”
In a bravura move, the octagonal structure reproduces the façade of the townhouse at 30 avenue Montaigne, the cradle of Parisian haute couture, where Monsieur Dior staged his legendary New Look show in February 1947. Though the stylish Bangkok store is instead set amidst a garden sprouting botanical plants and flowers.
A grand space of some 1,000 square meters whose eight sides are adorned entirely in gold, featuring mosaic and local techniques deployed by Thai artisans. Designed to blend the elegance of Paris with the plural heritage of captivating Thailand.
All of the house’s design divisions are showcased, from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s women’s ready-to-wear and Kim Jones’ menswear, to shoes, accessories, bags, jewelry and the Dior Maison lines devoted to tableware.
Featuring natural materials such as bamboo, wood and raffia, the better to contrast Dior symbols like the lucky star; toile de Jouy, or its Plan de Paris print. Seen from an overhead drone, Dior Gold House even boasts a roof with a giant five-pointed star, a much beloved icon of Monsieur Dior.
“Reflecting Christian Dior’s fascination with art, Dior Gold House exhibits works by nine emblematic Thai artists,” Dior stressed in a release.
Visitors can enjoy installations made from elephant footprints, by Boonserm Premthada; Saran Yen Panya of 56th Studio – who reinterprets for Dior the iconic tuk-tuk of Bangkok streets; and sculptures by Wishulada Panthanuvong that subtly decorate interiors. Armchairs by Eggarat Wongcharit, and furniture by the Sumphat duo – Rush Pleansuk and Philippe Moisan – blend elegance and functionality.
While the Paris house’s tradition of commissioning artists to create fine art versions of the Lady Dior bags continues with works by Vassana Saima and Savin Saima of Vassana, using bamboo evoking traditional floral art.
Plus, there is a Café Dior, combining gourmet pleasures with the French art of entertaining, decorated in exclusive scenography by Korakot Aromdee of flora and fauna in bamboo.
An ideal setting for three-starred chef Mauro Colagreco, best known for his famed restaurant Mirazur in Menton, France. He has composed a delicious score for a sweet menu inspired by nature – Christian Dior’s first love – and by the House’s couture legacy.
Talk about a French and Thai entente cordiale.
